Russian President Vladimir Putin has sharply criticized the United States’ attempts to pressure India and China to distance themselves from energy partnerships with Russia. He cautioned that such actions could have adverse economic consequences. The comments are a direct response to the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to influence trade relations with these two major Asian economies.
Putin suggested that higher tariffs on Russian trade partners would trigger global price increases, potentially compelling the US Federal Reserve to maintain elevated interest rates. The Trump administration’s imposition of an additional 25% tariff on India, pushing the overall tax on Indian exports to 50% by August, was also mentioned. Speaking to Russian experts, Putin declared, “India and China will not permit themselves to be humiliated.”
