Racism continues to be a prevalent issue in Ireland. A recent incident involved a 60-year-old Indian man who was subjected to racial harassment by children in Dublin. The children first asked for a selfie, then proceeded to mock the man and attempt to steal his wallet. This event has caused considerable worry within the Indian community and has amplified demands for legal reforms. The incident unfolded while the man was waiting for a bus with his family. Two children, estimated to be around 7 or 8 years old, came up to him. They started by requesting a selfie, and subsequently, they began to make fun of him. One of the children tried to steal his wallet. The man’s daughter stated that despite their attempts to remain composed, one of the boys blocked her father’s path and made offensive gestures. The incident deeply affected the entire family. The daughter pointed out the feeling of helplessness, given the existing environment and legal frameworks in Ireland. She further advocated for changes in the laws, acknowledging the difficulties people of color face in the country. This incident is not isolated; a similar case occurred the prior week where a six-year-old girl endured a racially motivated attack from older children.
