Russian President Vladimir Putin has signaled a potential shift towards military action in Ukraine, stating that Moscow “will explore military option” if peace talks falter. This warning comes at a critical juncture, on the eve of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting with US President Donald Trump to discuss ending the protracted conflict. Putin articulated concerns that Kyiv may not be genuinely pursuing a peaceful resolution, suggesting that military means might be necessary to achieve Russia’s goals. This development occurred shortly after Russia launched a significant offensive against Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, employing multiple waves of ballistic missiles and drones. The early Saturday attacks resulted in at least one death and left 27 individuals injured. President Zelenskyy is slated to meet President Trump in Florida this weekend to review a comprehensive peace plan, reportedly comprising 20 points with most details already agreed upon. He also aims to secure future security guarantees for Ukraine and suggested that involving European nations in the peace process, though desirable, might be challenging due to time constraints. Russian diplomatic engagement with the US concerning the conflict has also been confirmed by the Kremlin.
