In a collaborative effort, Saudi Arabia and France convened a summit at the United Nations to address the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The summit took place amidst a wave of recognition of Palestine as a state by several countries, including the United Kingdom and France, which are actively involved in diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalating Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
During the summit, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan called for global recognition of the State of Palestine, while also praising France’s decision to do so. During the summit that aimed to implement a two-state solution, Prince Faisal stated, “We invite other nations to take similar steps, which will have a large impact on efforts to implement the two-state solution.” Prince Faisal also highlighted that the recognition of the State of Palestine from France and others showcases the global desire for justice for the Palestinian people. He also reiterated Saudi Arabia’s readiness to implement the summit’s outcomes, including ending the Gaza conflict. He re-emphasized Saudi Arabia’s position on establishing East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital, based on the 1967 borders.
