Myanmar experienced a 4.5 magnitude earthquake on Friday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The NCS indicated the quake’s depth was 101km. Details of the event were posted on X, including the time, latitude, longitude, and location. Before this, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck the region on July 7. The NCS also provided details of this earlier earthquake. A 4.1 magnitude earthquake also occurred on July 3 with a shallow depth of 10km. Shallow earthquakes are often associated with more intense ground shaking. After the 7.7 and 6.4 magnitude earthquakes in March, the WHO raised concerns about health threats to displaced people, including tuberculosis and HIV. Myanmar is at risk from moderate to large earthquakes and potential tsunamis. The Sagaing Fault increases seismic risks, especially in areas like Yangon.
