Axiom Mission 4 is actively contributing to scientific understanding and technological advancements. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is a key figure, leading experiments in microgravity. His research includes the ‘sprouts project’ to study plant growth in space, the deployment of microalgae for life support, and crop seed experiments to identify plants for space agriculture. The crew is also involved in studies exploring eye movement in space, mental health in astronauts, and mitigating muscle loss due to microgravity. Moreover, the mission is gathering data on how clothing affects heat transfer, cardiovascular and balance systems, smartphone motion sensor accuracy, and radiation exposure. The Acquired Equivalence Test, a cognitive assessment, is also part of the mission.
