The World Stone Skimming Championship in Scotland is grappling with a fraud allegation, marking the first such incident in 42 years. The competition, hosted annually on the Isle of Easdale, involves competitors skipping stones across water, judged on the distance achieved. This year, it’s alleged that some participants utilized doctored stones. Investigations revealed that some individuals admitted to altering the stones. The competition, which has been a staple since 1993, usually uses natural stones found on the island. These stones undergo size verification using the ‘Ring of Truth’ device. A significant number of people, more than 2,000 from 27 different nations, joined this year’s event. Toss Master Matthews highlighted that the manipulation likely aimed to increase the stones’ skipping potential. John Jennings from Kentucky emerged victorious, securing the title with a score of 580.7 feet, making him the first American to win the championship.
