Tensions between Pakistan and Bangladesh have escalated due to Pakistan’s refusal to issue a formal apology for the events of 1971. The visit by the Pakistani Foreign Minister aimed at improving relations, but the two countries remain divided on the historical narrative, particularly regarding the atrocities committed during the 1971 war. Bangladesh has made it clear that it will continue to seek accountability for these events. Disagreements emerged following statements made by Dar, with his Bangladeshi counterpart, Md. Touhid Hossain, disputing the claims. The situation is further complicated by the lingering demands for justice, including the repatriation of Pakistani citizens and financial compensation. Despite attempts at diplomatic engagement, the unresolved historical grievances continue to be a major hurdle for normalized relations.
