The ousting of President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024 sparked optimism for a more just Syria. Yet, a recent report from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reveals a continuing crisis.
The report states that in the period from December 8, 2024, to August 6, 2025, Syria witnessed the deaths of almost 10,000 individuals. These fatalities were the outcome of enduring violence, atrocities by both local and foreign groups, and a lack of security. The death toll includes thousands of civilians, showing the immense suffering in the nation. The report also mentions that many people have been detained without due process, highlighting further injustice.
