On Friday, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence reported the detection of 29 PLA aircraft sorties and 6 PLAN vessels near its territory. Of these, 17 aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s ADIZ, as detailed in a post on X. The MND confirmed that it is monitoring and responding to the situation. This follows a period of increased military activity by China around Taiwan. President Lai Ching-te has responded by ordering the Taiwanese military to increase security surveillance in light of rising tensions in the region. In a meeting with military officials, President Lai stated that the recent events in West Asia have not altered China’s pressure tactics. He also mentioned the presence of Chinese aircraft carriers near the island. President Lai emphasized the need for strong relationships with allies to enable a swift response to any situation and noted the higher Force Protection Condition level implemented by the United States Indo-Pacific Command in the region.
