
On July 1st, the Indian Navy will commission the stealth frigate ‘Tamal’ in Kaliningrad, Russia. Vice Admiral Sanjay J. Singh will lead the commissioning ceremony. ‘Tamal’, a multi-role frigate, is the eighth ship in the Krivak class and the second of the Tushil class, and incorporates significant advancements. The ship’s construction has involved collaboration between Indian and Russian specialists, with a focus on incorporating indigenous content. ‘Tamal’ is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including BrahMos missiles, improved guns, and advanced surveillance systems, along with the capability to support helicopters. The ship boasts impressive specifications, including a high speed and a significant firepower-to-tonnage ratio. The crew, trained extensively in challenging conditions, collectively takes pride in calling themselves ‘The Great Bears’. Upon commissioning, ‘Tamal’ will join the Western Fleet.
