
A devastating plane crash involving a UPS cargo jet has occurred in Louisville, Kentucky, shortly after its departure from the city’s international airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that a McDonnell Douglas MD-11, identified as UPS Flight 2976, crashed around 5:15 p.m. local time on Tuesday. The flight was bound for Honolulu. Initial reports from the Louisville Metro Police Department confirmed a significant blaze at the crash site near Fern Valley and Grade Lane and indicated that injuries were sustained. It is believed that all three crew members on board perished in the incident. Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky conveyed his distress, noting the serious nature of the crash and the confirmed lack of hazardous cargo. He urged the public to keep the affected families and crew in their thoughts and prayers. The U.S. Transportation Secretary also shared somber reflections on the ‘heartbreaking visuals’ emerging from the scene and affirmed that federal agencies, including the FAA and the NTSB, are mobilizing to investigate.
