Sydney is mourning the loss of Samanvitha Dhareshwar, a 33-year-old Indian woman who was eight months pregnant and tragically killed in a road accident last Friday. The devastating incident also claimed the life of her unborn child.
The accident occurred on George Street in Hornsby. According to police, a Kia Carnival slowed to let Dhareshwar, her husband, and their three-year-old son cross a footpath. At this critical moment, a BMW, driven by a teenager, crashed into the back of the Kia. The impact sent the Kia forward, fatally striking Dhareshwar as she crossed the entrance.
Despite immediate medical attention at Westmead Hospital, both Dhareshwar and her baby could not be saved. The driver of the BMW, a 19-year-old on a provisional license, has been taken into custody. He has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and causing the loss of a foetus. Authorities are considering prosecuting him under Zoe’s Law, which allows for stricter penalties when an unborn child is lost due to dangerous driving.
