Lord Swraj Paul, the founder of the Caparo Group, has died in London at the age of 94. He was a prominent figure in the Indian diaspora in the UK and was a familiar presence in the House of Lords. Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences on the passing of NRI industrialist Swaraj Paul, acknowledging his lasting impact on philanthropy and public service. Born in Jalandhar, Lord Paul moved to the UK in the 1960s, seeking medical treatment for his daughter Ambika. Following Ambika’s passing at a young age, he established the Ambika Paul Foundation, which has provided considerable support to educational and health-related initiatives for children and young people. Despite facing personal tragedies, including the deaths of his son Angad Paul in 2015 and his wife Aruna in 2022, Lord Paul continued his philanthropic activities.
