Donald Trump has voiced strong disapproval of Zohran Mamdani’s recent victory speech, calling it “very angry” and a “bad start” for the incoming New York City Mayor. Trump, speaking from Miami, told Fox News that Mamdani’s confrontational approach, particularly his remarks directed at the former president, could jeopardize federal-state relations. “I think he should be very nice to me,” Trump stated, emphasizing his own role in approving matters pertinent to the city. Mamdani, a progressive leader and immigrant, delivered a passionate address on election night that directly confronted Trump and the established political order. He declared his win a mandate against Trump’s policies and pledged to lead a city “built by immigrants” and now “led by an immigrant.” The mayor-elect outlined plans to tackle issues like landlord exploitation, workers’ rights, and elite-driven corruption. Trump responded by labeling Mamdani’s statements “very dangerous” and insisted on the necessity of “respect” for Washington. He indicated that Mamdani must seek federal collaboration to achieve his goals, suggesting the mayor-elect should initiate contact. Trump further characterized Mamdani as a “communist,” casting doubt on the feasibility of his policy proposals. Nevertheless, Trump affirmed his enduring love for New York and his hope for the city’s success under new leadership.
