Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated Sunday that the Gaza peace plan was well-received and didn’t need changes, with widespread support. Before leaving the White House, Trump answered questions about the Gaza plan, indicating that final decisions would be made soon.
Trump highlighted that there were limited alternatives and that flexibility wasn’t needed because the plan had broad agreement. He acknowledged that some modifications were likely but that the plan was ‘amazing.’ He expressed that peace in the Middle East would become a reality, a first in 3,000 years, and that he was deeply honored to participate. Ongoing negotiations were mentioned, with an expected resolution within days, which would generate widespread happiness.
Trump stressed the plan’s importance for Israel and the Arab and Muslim world, labeling it a major accomplishment. The White House shared on X that there had been positive discussions over the weekend with Hamas and various global partners, including Arab and Muslim nations, aimed at releasing hostages, ending the war in Gaza, and securing long-awaited peace in the Middle East.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu anticipated an announcement about the release of all hostages from Gaza in the coming days. Indirect talks are scheduled in Egypt with Hamas to discuss the new American plan for ending the war. Netanyahu announced that he sent a delegation to Egypt to resolve technical issues. The aim is to finalize the negotiations swiftly. Netanyahu’s statement came after Hamas accepted certain conditions of the American plan. President Trump expressed approval of Hamas’s statement but urged them to act quickly, warning that failure to do so could forfeit the opportunity.
