President Trump has formalized the US-Japan trade agreement with an executive order, setting into motion the implementation of the deal. The agreement imposes a 15% baseline tariff on most Japanese imports. In a significant aspect of the agreement, Japan will invest $550 billion in the United States. The order, building upon the framework established in July, underscores the principles of reciprocity in trade. Japan is set to buy US commercial aircraft, defense equipment, and is increasing its procurement of US agricultural products. The US government will oversee the allocation of investments, with the intent to generate employment and boost domestic manufacturing.
