Following Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary, former President Donald Trump unleashed a series of criticisms. Trump attacked Mamdani, focusing on his physical appearance, voice, and perceived intelligence. He also took aim at Democrats, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Chuck Schumer, for their support of Mamdani. Trump’s comments, posted on Truth Social, labeled Mamdani as a radical figure and expressed concern about the future. Mamdani, a New York State Assembly member, reacted to his win with a quote from Nelson Mandela. Mamdani, born in Uganda to Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair and Indo-Ugandan professor Mahmood Mamdani, is the first South Asian man to serve in the New York State Assembly, the first Ugandan, and the only third Muslim ever to be a member of the body.
