Students were alerted via text messages to an active shooter threat and advised on safety protocols, including securing their immediate surroundings and minimizing visibility.
The Providence Police Department confirmed they were actively investigating the shooting, which occurred near a significant academic complex. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was also on-site. Officials urged the public to avoid the affected area as the investigation commenced. This tragic event in Rhode Island comes after a separate fatal stabbing at a North Carolina high school, where a student lost their life and another sustained injuries. The North Carolina school plans to offer counseling services to its students and staff.
