The arrival of the ‘Doomsday plane’ in Washington, against the backdrop of the Iran-Israel conflict, is a significant development. The E-4B Nightwatch, a vital asset for the US military, touched down at St Andrew’s Air Force Base. This aircraft acts as the National Airborne Operations Centre (NAOC), providing a secure platform for the President, Defence Secretary, and other key figures to communicate and command during times of crisis, including nuclear war. It is designed to withstand the impact of nuclear explosions, cyberattacks and missile strikes. The plane is able to carry 112 crew members and can travel more than 7,000 miles. Amidst the current tensions, former President Trump expressed concerns over the situation, while keeping his options open regarding Iran. He has suggested that a potential deal with Iran was missed in the past.
