In a decisive operation, the United States Navy has destroyed a submarine suspected of transporting illicit drugs in the Caribbean Sea, as announced by the White House on Sunday. The submarine was reportedly navigating a well-established route for drug smuggling towards the U.S. The strike, which occurred on Thursday, resulted in the deaths of two people. This incident marks the sixth time in recent weeks that U.S. forces have intercepted and engaged vessels in the Caribbean, with previous encounters resulting in 27 casualties. Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to commend the successful operation, stating that it prevented an estimated 25,000 potential American deaths. He referred to the destroyed submarine as “very large” and affirmed that “no U.S. Forces were harmed.” Trump reiterated his administration’s stance against “narcoterrorists” and illegal drug flow. The two individuals who survived the attack are to be repatriated to Ecuador and Colombia for judicial proceedings. The Colombian President verified that a citizen of his country was detained and will face legal consequences in Colombia.
