The ‘dusting’ trend, a dangerous activity involving the inhalation of household cleaners for a high, has led to the death of 19-year-old Renna O’Rourke of Arizona. Her father revealed that her boyfriend obtained an aerosol keyboard cleaner without their consent. The inhalation caused cardiac arrest, resulting in a four-day stay in the ICU and ultimately, brain death. Medical professionals warn of the severe health risks associated with ‘dusting,’ including heart failure. Renna’s mother highlighted the ease with which these cleaners are accessed by young people, advocating for increased parental awareness. The family has initiated a campaign to raise awareness about ‘dusting’ and its consequences, while also managing medical expenses through a GoFundMe page. A similar event in the UK also resulted in a fatality in March 2024.
