The dangerous social media trend known as ‘dusting,’ also known as ‘huffing’ or ‘chroming,’ has resulted in the death of 19-year-old Renna O’Rourke from Arizona. The trend involves inhaling household cleaners for a quick high, which can lead to severe health issues, including heart failure. The incident occurred when O’Rourke inhaled keyboard cleaner, obtained without her parents’ knowledge, leading to cardiac arrest. After four days in the ICU, she was declared brain dead. Her family is now actively working to raise awareness about the deadly risks associated with ‘dusting.’ Renna’s mother noted the easy availability of such cleaners. The family is urging parents to be vigilant about their children’s activities and environment. They have also started a GoFundMe page to help cover medical expenses. This incident resembles a similar case in the UK, where a boy died in March 2024 due to substance inhalation.
