The ‘dusting’ challenge, a dangerous trend circulating on social media, has claimed the life of 19-year-old Renna O’Rourke in the United States. The Arizona teen suffered cardiac arrest after inhaling keyboard cleaner, a product ordered without her parents’ awareness. She spent four days in intensive care before being declared brain dead. This trend, also known as ‘huffing’ or ‘chroming,’ involves inhaling household cleaners to achieve a high, a practice that carries the risk of severe health complications, including heart failure. Renna’s family is actively campaigning to educate others about the dangers of ‘dusting,’ encouraging parents to monitor their children and their access to potentially harmful substances. A GoFundMe page has been created to support the family with medical and therapy costs. A similar case occurred in the UK in March 2024.
