In a recent White House meeting, former US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated their support for the controversial initiative to relocate Palestinians from Gaza. This plan, which has been widely criticized as a form of forced displacement, was discussed during a dinner in the Blue Room. This meeting took place as indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas, mediated by the US, continued in Qatar, aiming for a 60-day ceasefire to end the 21-month war in Gaza. Netanyahu mentioned ongoing efforts with the US to identify countries that would offer a better future for Palestinians. Trump echoed this sentiment and also stated that neighboring countries were cooperating on the matter. The proposal, described by Israel as ‘voluntary migration,’ has been denounced as a form of ethnic cleansing. During the meeting, no concrete plan for the relocation was presented and concerns were raised that such a plan might hinder post-war agreement in Gaza. The ceasefire negotiations in Qatar include plans for a phased release of hostages, Israeli withdrawal from some areas of Gaza, and comprehensive peace talks, while Netanyahu remains opposed to a full Palestinian state.
