Russian President Vladimir Putin stands out among world leaders for his lack of a personal social media presence. This has been a topic of frequent discussion, but now the Russian presidential office has clarified the reasons for his absence from these platforms. Putin first became president in 1999, around the time social media began to emerge.
A report by Russia Today, based on information from Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, provides an in-depth explanation of Putin’s stance. Peskov confirmed that the Russian president does not and will not use social media, as he sees it as a time-waster. While he remains updated on online happenings, Putin prefers to stay away from direct engagement with these platforms, getting his information from the Kremlin or family. It is worth noting that the Russian presidential office does operate an official social media account.
When asked in 2017, Putin indicated that he focuses on fitness during his free time, as well as spending time with friends and enjoying music when not busy with presidential duties.
