Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has lauded President Donald Trump’s achievement in mediating a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, expressing a strong desire to see a similar diplomatic push to resolve the ongoing war with Russia. Zelensky shared his positive sentiments following a productive phone call with Trump.
On social media, Zelensky hailed the Middle East deal as an ‘outstanding achievement,’ directly correlating its success to the possibility of ending conflicts in other regions, including the war instigated by Russia. ‘If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well, including the Russian war,’ he stated. Zelensky also briefed Trump on the escalating Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and expressed his appreciation for Trump’s readiness to offer support.
Key to their discussion were potential enhancements to Ukraine’s air defense systems. Zelensky highlighted the existence of ‘good options and solid ideas’ for significantly bolstering Ukraine’s defenses. He underscored the importance of creating conditions where Russia would be compelled to engage in genuine diplomacy, a state achievable through demonstrated strength. The Ukrainian President concluded the conversation by thanking Trump, signaling an open dialogue for peace efforts.
