New York City’s mayoral race is heating up, with over 735,000 residents having already cast their ballots during the early voting period. Indications point towards Zohran Mamdani, a Democratic socialist, maintaining a strong lead against former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa. The substantial number of early votes highlights a considerable level of public engagement.
Survey data consistently places Mamdani in front. A recent AtlasIntel poll revealed Mamdani at 41%, Cuomo at 34%, and Sliwa at 24%. Although this poll showed a marginal decrease in Mamdani’s lead, previous polls from respected institutions such as Fox News and Marist University showed him with a wider 16-point lead. Consistent trends are also observed in polls conducted by Quinnipiac University, the Manhattan Institute, and Victory Insights, all projecting Mamdani as the frontrunner.
A notable trend observed in the early voting data is the increased participation from younger voters. After a slower start earlier in the week, the number of voters under 35 surged significantly in the final days. Over 100,000 individuals in this age group cast their ballots from Friday to Sunday, underscoring a growing interest among the youth in the mayoral election.
