Know what is the controversy

The NEET UG exam was conducted on May 05, 2024, for which examination centers were set up in 557 cities across the country and 14 cities abroad. About 24 lakh students appeared in the exam this year. After the examination, there were also allegations of paper leak. However, NTA had given clarification saying that the examination started smoothly and was completed peacefully. The controversy escalated rapidly when NTA released the NEET UG result on June 4. This year a record 67 candidates secured All India Rank – 1. After seeing the result, many candidates alleged irregularities in the marks. They say that due to this irregularity, 6 candidates from the same center are included in the top 67 candidates. This allegation was made regarding the increase in marks.

How did some candidates get 718 and 719 marks?

The NEET paper is of 720 marks. Each question is of four marks and there is negative marking of one mark for each wrong answer. If a student answers all the questions correctly, he gets 720 out of 720 and if he leaves one question, he gets 716 marks. In such a situation, it was argued that it is impossible for any student to get 718 or 719 marks. On this, NTA said, “Compensatory marks have been given on the basis of the criteria of Loss of Time. Therefore, the marks of the candidates can also be 718 or 719.
